America's first muslim congressman tells about being judged on a religion.


Summary:
Keith Ellison became the first muslim congressman from Minnesota in 2006.

Keith was the third son of 5 and raised and borned in Detroit.
His mother was a social worker and raised him as a Roman Catholics, his father was a psychiatrist.

The grandfather of Keith had a big influence at his life, even though he died before Keith was born. His grandfather played a active roll in the civil rights movement and supported racial segregation. He made a campaign in Louisianna to give black people a vote, but it was against the rights of the white people of the Kuklusclan.

His mother was a Catholic and his father didn't have a religion.

When Keith was 19 he started to study economics after that he went to law school. When he studied he had a good friend who was a Muslim and on a fridaymorning he was going to church. Keith went with him and he liked it so he was changing his religion to Muslim. He didn't tell his parents about it so in november with Thanksgiving he didn't want to eat meet and told his parents he changed his religion. His brother was changed to baptist preacher.

When Keith went 47 he decided to devote himself to social justice and then he became the director of legal right centre. Later he wanted to do more for the community and goes into the politics. In 2006 he elected to the House of Representatives as the first Muslim Congressman.

- Rights for Gays
- Peace
- Country without wars, like in Iraq and Afghanistan.
- Work in middle and lower socialclass,
